Mrs. Carole Pauline Duncan Rice, 83, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Carole was born November 15, 1934, in Catawba County, to the late Eli G. Duncan and Lillian Grant Duncan. She was a member of First Advent Christian Church, and was retired from JC Penney's . Carole loved to cook and work puzzles; but most of all she loved being surrounded by her family and providing for them.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rice; sons, Alan Rice and Kenny Rice; daughter, Donna Rice; sister, Nadine Wolfe; brothers, Cecil Duncan and Maurice Duncan; daughter-in-laws, Linda Rice and Ellen Rice; and son-in-law, James Helton.
She is survived by her sons, Darrell Rice and wife Karen and Dusty Rice and Terrie Black; Dennis Rice and wife Schell, Wayne Rice and wife Kathy; daughter Jean Mummert and husband Lee; brothers, H.L. Duncan and wife Carolyn, and Gary Duncan; sister, Jeanette Lail and husband Robert; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her neighbors, the Lafone family and also to caregivers, Teresa Lail and Vickie Mcalpin; and to Encompass Health, Catawba Regional Hospice and to all the palliative care nurses.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 7:00 PM at First Advent Christian Church, with Rev. Dr. John Herschel Roller officiating.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at First Advent Christian Church.
