Mrs. Doris Doyle Davis Burns, 96, of Rutherford College passed away August 13,2018 at College Pines Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Burns was born May 12, 1922 in Horse Pasture, VA to the late W.H. Davis and Hester Doyle Davis. She worked for thirty five years at Valdese Hospital as Head Registered Nurse, and eleven years at Broughton as supervisor of G Ward. She was a faithful, long time member, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed painting.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Ray S. Burns of; son, Kenneth Douglas "Doug" Burns; brothers, Snookie Davis, Alton Davis, Donald Davis, and Wilson Davis; and sisters, Margaret Cruise and Jean Hensley.
Survivors include, sister, Julia Terry of Rich Acres, VA; sons, Johnny Ray Burns and wife Gloria of Safety Harbor and Michael D. Burns and wife Nancy of Rutherford College; grandchildren, Myles Burns and wife Kim of Granite Falls, Amanda Smith and husband Jesse of Icard, Kimberly Burns of Rutherford College, and Kristin Burns of Safety Harbor, FL; and great grandchildren, Clayton James "C.J." Burns of Safety Harbor, FL, Lylah Ledford of Rutherford College, Allison Burns, Karaleigh Burns, Anna Burns, Miley Burns, all of Granite Falls, Gwendolyn Smith, and James Smith of Icard. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday August 18, 2018 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the Rev. Charles Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at 704 Praley St. SW Valdese, NC 28690.
