Mr. Ernest Alvin Buff, 91, of Garner, formerly of Morganton, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Wake Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
Ernest was born on December 5, 1926 in Burke County to the late Moulton C. Buff and Bertha Powell Buff. He was retired from the food service industry, was a longtime member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church in Morganton and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ernest started his career in food management in the early 1950's, and began working for Professional Food Management in the late 1960's and became cafeteria manager of multiple universities over the next twenty years. Ernest married Margaret Price after his retirement in 2002 and enjoyed spending time together until her passing earlier this year. He always enjoyed cooking and loved to see the smiling faces whenever he served Thanksgiving and other holiday meals at the DAV in Morganton. He loved his church and all the members he regularly congregated with.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Price Buff, five brothers, Herbert, Bill, Calvin, Ulysses and Charlie Buff and by one sister, Ada Jones.
Survivors include three children, Shannon Buff of Garner, Randy Buff of Orlando and Carolyn J. Zuvick of Port Charlotte, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother, Earl Buff.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at Cross Memorial Baptist Church in Morganton, with Rev. Jeff Beach officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Cross Memorial Baptist Church.
