Mr. George Edward "Ed" Singleton, 76, of Valdese, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, following a period of declining health.
Ed was born April 21, 1942, in Avery County, to the late Edgar Singleton and Doral Ollis Singleton. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Ed loved to watch his favorite teams, NC State and the Washington Redskins; but more than that, he loved visits and spending time with his grandchildren, and being involved in their activities.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Singleton, Kenny Singleton, and Lawrence Ledford; and step-father, Jack Ledford.
Survivors include his wife Edna Taylor Singleton of the home; son, Neal Singleton and wife Lee Ann of Morganton; daughter, Lisa Ann Barrett of Toledo, OH; five grandchildren, Colton Singleton of Morganton, Eden Rose of Toledo, OH, Haven Taylor Barrett of Toledo, OH, Drew Anderson and wife Alya of Raleigh, and Tanner Anderson of Chapel Hill; great- grandchild Liam Anderson; brother, Fred Ledford of Valdese; three sisters, Betty Cook of Hickory, Elizabeth Ogle and husband Keith of Valdese, Cheryl Daye and husband Greg of Valdese; niece, Theresa Arney and husband George of Hickory; five nephews, Johnny Blackburn of Hickory, Jeremiah Daye of Valdese, Ryan Ledford of Charlotte, Patrick Ledford of Valdese, and Parker Ledford of Charlotte; two aunts, Lina Garland of Plumtree, NC and Ann Ollis of Plumtree, NC; and uncle, CC Ollis and wife Gene of Elk Park, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Jeff Carter officiating.
Entombment will follow at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care at 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
