Harold Coy Earley, 81, of Rutherford College, NC and formerly of the Baton community died on August 8, 2018 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born November 8, 1936 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Coy Earley and Virle Lane Earley.
Harold was a member of Mountain Grove Church in Baton and was retired from Caldwell County Schools after 33 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rachel Pope Earley, daughter, Jane Earley Phillips (Paul) of Rutherford College, son, Robert Earley of Maryville, TN and daughter, Julie Earley Harris (Jason) of Hickory, grandchildren, Elizabeth Phillips Vander Heyden (Eric) of Cary, NC, Ben Phillips of Rutherford College, Adam and Allison Earley of Maryville, TN, Luke, Landon, and Sam Harris of Hickory. Also surviving are his siblings, Emma Tuttle of Hudson, Mary Watson (Brad) of Charlotte, Howard Earley (Judy) of Asheville, Reba Austin (Steve) of Lenoir, Nancy Palmer (Larry) of Little River, SC, Karen Adams of Asheville and Wayne Earley of Jackson, KY. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 Sunday, August 12th at Mtn. Grove Church. The funeral will immediately follow with Dr. Clifton Black officiating, assisted by Jeff Burkhimer.
Military honors will follow the service outside. Interment will be private at a later date. Harold's grandsons will serve as pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers will be members of Baton Ruritan Club, the former Cajah's Mtn. Lions Club and the men of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Mtn. Grove Church.
