Mr. Robert Claywell English, Sr., 101, of Valdese passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at CHC-Blue Ridge in Morganton following a period of declining health.
Robert was born May 7, 1918 in Burke County to the late Harriett Huskins English and William Wakefield English. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Army, where he received a Purple Heart after being wounded in combat. Following his time in the service he worked at Valdese Manufacturing for over 40 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl Harris; and his siblings.
Survivors include his son, Rev. Robert C. English, Jr. and wife Glenda of Morganton; daughters, Rebecca Stamey of Winston Salem and Patricia Stroud and husband Dean of Valdese; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grand children, and three great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 3:00PM Sunday, June 9, 2019 in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton with military honors presented by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 2:45PM on Sunday at Heritage Funeral Service.
