Robert (R.C.) Clyde Opp, Jr. (also known as Bob) of Morganton, NC; born in Akron, Ohio, July 1, 1935, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, died August 19, 2018.

Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clyde Opp, Sr. and Mary Ann (Mulvaney) Opp, and four sisters: Juanita, Irene, Gladys, and Evelyn.

Survived by wife of 62 years, Leona (Lee) Opp and children, Sandra Desorgher (Max), Ginger Johnston, Mary Ann Domanska (Andrew Domanski), and Casey Opp (Stacey). Special sons: David Alley (April), Santa Federico (Junko), Billy Ramsey, Jeremiah Turner, and Scott Laney. Current foster sons: Camron Lau and Austin Guffey. Grandchildren: Robert Johnson, Erika Johnson, Brianna Johnston (Jeff), Megan Kane, Taylor Johnston (Taylor), Clara Domanska, Robyn Bowan, Amber Opp, Haley Opp, Cooper Opp, Liam Federico, Ryan Federico, Mia Federico, and Katie Lou Alley. Great Grandchildren: Tobias, Sadie, Faye, Bronwen, Azure, Ethan, Hunter, Jack, Jane, Joan, and another grandson on the way, Waylon Reid Bowan. Also, special niece Marcy Greathouse, and her husband Jim of Akron, Ohio.

Bob Opp was previously employed by Grace Hospital as a respiratory therapist. Together, with his wife Lee, he was involved with Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts for many years. He was a Volunteer for Trail of Faith in Valdese, COMMA as a Blue Blazer, member of the local chapter of AARP, and a long-time comedic performer with Old Colony Players. He was also a Founding Member of, and helped to construct, the Miami Springs Powerboat Club.

Bob and Lee Opp were active and loving foster parents to over two hundred foster children (both short and long term) for more than 45 years. He loved telling a good joke (or a bad joke, it didn't matter) and making people laugh. He was a charmer, a lover of life, a collector of knowledge and wisdom (a master at completing daily crossword puzzles), a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lee Opp, for sixty-two years.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 23, 2018 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, 1507 Main St. E., Valdese, NC 28690, with the Rev. Johnny Shelton officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the N.C. National Guard and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Heritage Funeral Service.
