Mr. Roger Dean Church, 78, passed away Saturday November 10, 2018 at Carolina Caring in Hickory following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Burke County on July 14, 1940 to the late Ernest L. Church and Ruth P. Church.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Loretta Hendrix Church of the home; his daughter, Julia Stewart; son, Scott Church and wife Valenia, all of Hickory; three grandchildren, Wesley, Savanna, and Madeline also of Hickory; brother, Harold Church and wife Ruby of Lenoir; sisters, Gail Rhoney and husband Eddie of Hildebran and Brenda Childers and husband Terry of Connelly Springs; step brother Shawn Lail and wife Donna of Lenoir ; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. He also leaves behind his special furry friend Buddy.
Roger was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and a graduate of Hildebran High School Class of 1959 which he still enjoyed gathering with. Roger retired from Duke Energy and also worked for Lowes Hardware. He was a kind, humble man who enjoyed hunting and fishing, golfing, woodworking, and working in his yard.
A celebration of life will be held 4:00PM Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Nicholas Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 3:00PM to 4:00PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carolina Caring at 3975 Robinson Rd. Newton, NC 28658.
