Mrs. Ruby Huffman Hartman, 92, of the George Hildebran community, went to be with her Lord that she served faithfully on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Hartman was born November 19, 1927 in Burke County. A daughter of the late Henry and Ollie Martin Huffman, Ruby was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She graduated from cosmetology School in Charlotte. Upon graduation, she opened a beauty shop in her home. This is where she served many of the ladies throughout the George Hildebran community. You could always catch up on the latest happenings in the George Hildebran community by spending time in her shop.
Ruby faithfully served her Lord at St. Jonh's Baptist church and then at Philidelphia Baptist Church. She obtained the amazing gift of hospitality and always made anyone feel welcomed and at home. Any time Preacher or Gospel Groups were traveling through the area, they would always give Ruby a call and she would whip up a home cooked meal for them, day or night. She was especially known for her chicken and dumplings, most importantly the huge pot she always cooked them in. Ruby was also notoriously known for cooking too much. She guaranteed no one left hungry. That philosophy, as well as her love of cooking, was passed down to her two children.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Hartman; a son, Rocky V. Hartman and wife Kathy of Connelly Springs; daughter, Robyn Hartman of Valdese; brother, Danny Huffman and wife Peggy of Hickory; granddaughter, Brooke H. Brown and husband Zachary of Nebo; grandson, Bo Hartman and fiance' Miranda Dale. Also surviving include a number of nieces and nephews.
A Service of Celebration will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday February 16, 2020 at Philadelphia Baptist Church, with Rev. Doyle Hardin and Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Philadelphia Baptist Church on George Hildebran School road.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Philadelphia Baptist Church, 765 George Hildebrand Church Rd., Connelly Springs, NC 28612.
