Teresa "Terri" Ann Locke Childers, 71, died March 29, 2020, in Hickory, North Carolina, but joyfully is resurrected to new life in Christ. Her life spoke a word of good news, comfort, servanthood, and love to the world. She was a character!

Terri was born January 19, 1949, in Hickory, North Carolina, to Jack Howard Locke and Blanche Cody Locke. She is survived by Nathan, her husband of more than 53 years. She leaves sons Eric (Kristi), of Charleston, South Carolina; Cory (Courtney) of Greenville, South Carolina; and Craig (Lee) of Hickory. She absolutely adored her grandchildren Jack, Lily, Katie, Grey, and Logan, and they loved her. Terri is also survived by her beloved siblings, Jackie (Melvin), Janet (Jimmy), and Dickie (Cheri); nieces Melissa (Noah), Melanie (Keith), and Alex; and large extended family.

Though her greatest vocations were wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Terri retired from her work as an office manager at Comez North America in 2014. Over the years, Terri started and owned a business, dabbled in catering, and helped Nathan with the business management of the family nursery.

One of Terri's greatest loves was being a hostess. She loved to talk about food, read about food, watch television shows about food, try new food, and prepare food for family and friends. She loved a good family party, especially one with delicious food. Her specialities include Southern turnips and green beans (with lots of fatback and sugar), apple pie, coconut cake, nuts and bolts, egg salad, pecan tarts, and various homemade dressings and sauces. She was mildly offended by any meal that was not prepared from scratch. Terri's salads were works of art, and her crème brûlée and flan were both legendary.

Terri also was a vital part of weekly congregational and community meals prepared at Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was an active parishioner. Terri also served on the church council, as church treasurer, on the altar guild, and in many other duties of congregational life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church in Hickory, in hopes of establishing a columbarium with the first inurnment to be Terri's cremains. The family is so grateful for the care she received from heroic nurses and physicians at Catawba Valley Medical Center, especially during our physical separation from Terri during her COVID-19 quarantine. A funeral is planned for a later date after the pandemic threat has passed. Arrangements are handled by Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory.
