Mr. Walter Alexander Gragg, Jr. 72, passed away on his birthday Thursday November 8, 2018 at Duke University Hospital, following a six month illness with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born in Burke county on November 8, 1946 to Sarah Ingle Gragg and Walter Alexander Gragg, Sr. both deceased. His maternal grandparents, Cleo and Harrison Ingle, his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Maggie Gragg and his beloved sister Ann Hall preceeded him in death.
Walter was a dedicated Christian, a member of Connelly Springs Baptist Church and currently attended Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, NC. His service to his church included Deacon, youth leader and youth Sunday School Teacher, 27 years R.A. leader and a member of many committees.
Walter was an avid Duke Blue Devil fan, member of the NC Association of Accountants, and currently was serving as an Alderman for the Town of Connelly Springs. He was a 1965 graduate of Valdese High School and a 1969 Graduate of High Point University. He had just completed 50 years as a CPA and currently worked for Martin-Starnes and Associates. Most of all Walter enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf or just hanging out.
Surviving are the love of his life, his wife, Bernice Shook Gragg of the home, a daughter, Lisa Moore and husband Charles of Conover, and a grandson, Charles Alexander Moore of Conover. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Gragg and wife Patsy of Charlotte, Scott Gragg of Connelly Springs, a sister Marilyn Kay Houston and husband Ken of Icard, an extended family of much loved brother and sister -in laws and a number of nieces and nephews and all his church family friends.
A Service of Celebration will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday November 12, 2018 at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ed Yount officiating. A private Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Connelly Springs.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3;00 P.M. at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Conover,
