Mrs. Zora Lee Hoyle Powell -Johnson, 94, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Zora was born June 1, 1924, in Catawba County, to the late Gordon Hoyle and Brady Young Hoyle. She was retired from Broughton Hospital and a longtime member of River of Life Church of God where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was a loving mother to her children.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Elbert Powell and her second husband RL Johnson; son, Gary Powell; daughter-in-law, Anna Powell; step-daughter, Rebecca Elliott; brother, Colin Hoyle; and sister Aileen Deal.
Survivors include her sons, Dallas Powell and wife Yvonne, and Randy Powell and wife Rose; grandchildren, Wayne Powell, Carrie Ferrell, Dreama Whitaker, Kimberly Kurtz, Scott Powell, Scott Holt, Angel Richardson; sister, Eula Mae Crowder; brother, Bill Hoyle; numerous great- grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 10:00 AM at River of Life Church of God with Pastor Alan King officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
The family receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
